Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world, has Scoliosis

WEAKNESS OR SUPERPOWER?

Twelve years after setting his world record, Usain Bolt still holds the title of “Fastest Man in the World”.

Whether his speed is due to or in spite of his Scoliosis, one thing’s for sure…it certainly never stopped him.

However, for a time, it did hinder him.

And this got me thinking…

How did he transform a pain inducing weakness into a super power?!

SURRENDER

Personally, I used to associate surrender with failure…submitting to your opponent’s authority.

But these last few years, my perspective of the word surrender has broadened quite a bit :

  • I’ve surrendered to truths I didn’t want to be true…and I set myself free

  • I’ve surrendered trying to control others + outcomes…and I’m living in alignment with myself; Knowing that whatever I desire is already mine

  • I’ve surrendered perfectionism…and I’m discovering deeper truths about myself + finally having fun in the process

Surrender isn’t about giving up your personal power.

It’s about dropping the resistance that’s keeping you separate from it.

DROP THE RESISTANCE AND RECEIVE

As Usain Bolt’s career progressed, his Scoliosis no longer plagued him.

“But if I keep my core and back strong, the Scoliosis doesn’t really bother me”. — Usain Bolt

In fact, scientists and coaches alike chose not to correct his Scoliosis too much for fear it would negatively impact his performance.

Instead, it became a delicate balance of keeping him strong + pain free while also accepting + working with his Scoiiosis.

ACCEPTANCE

Reflection : Once we let go of the resistance, we’re free to accept ourselves. That’s the magic place where true change takes place.

What’s the biggest weakness that you’re ready to accept about yourself and transform into your greatest superpower?

To truly own it, name the weakness + its corresponding superpower in the comments below.
